One of the most common questions I get is, “What is the BEST low back pain exercise?”

Well, this is a loaded question because it really depends on the phase of care you are in.  Are you in pain, or are you looking to strengthen your low back?

But if I had only one strengthening exercise for my low back and hips for the rest of my life, I would choose… THE DEADLIFT (or some variation of it).

Most people say, “Aren’t deadlifts bad for your back?”  Deadlifts are a great way to strengthen and mobilize your hips, and spine, and it’s a complex movement that actually engages core strength!

The problem is that most people don’t know how to do it properly!  That is why I am including a video on how to deadlift to save your low back.  Check it out.

No matter where you are in your back pain journey, your ultimate goal should be to get back to deadlifts in some capacity (even if it’s very lightweight and you have to modify).

Getting to the point where you can deadlift properly is not an easy task but there are ways you can build up the strength, and mobility to do it.  I highly recommend you watch this deadlift alternative video to get some ideas.
